A5. The Victoria Class submarines are some of the CFs most strategic military assets, and the Navy is working diligently to provide this capability as soon as feasibly possible. We continue to make steady progress toward full operational capability. We currently have one operational Victoria Class submarine, HMCS Corner Brook, while the others are undergoing planned maintenance activities. HMCS Chicoutimi will be the first submarine to commence its EDWP under the Victoria-Class In-Service Support Contract (VISSC), a long-term (up to 15 years) partnering arrangement with industry that provides the complete array of submarine maintenance support. Chicoutimi is undergoing fire damage repairs at the same time as its EDWP to ensure the most cost-effective use of engineering, material and financial resources.
