The well publicized airport closure lasted 8 days and occurred from Nov 26 to Dec 5, 2008. A local Thai political group (PAD) was protesting the incumbent prime minister and administration. This was an extremely embarrasing incident for the Thai government as well as a major disruption for thousands of passengers and airlines. Nonetheless, the entire protest was virtually peaceful and all services have since been satisfactorily restored.
