What is the current state of Santa Fe Countys tax rolls?
Santa Fe County’s tax rolls are pretty much the same as they have been for years. There is a tremendous amount of data that could benefit of our community, but is not being captured by current Geographic Information Systems technology. There has been a lackluster effort to centralize data that can be used to update the county tax rolls. The technology is available for the city, the county and the state to share information. This updated information will have a tremendous impact on how we assess properties. The inequity that exists in the assessment process cannot continue. What would you do to generate new revenue for the county? There are a tremendous number of undervalued and omitted properties in Santa Fe County. New revenue can be generated by making a concerted effort to evaluate every property in Santa Fe County to ensure that everyone is paying their fair share and that we are not subsidizing those inaccurately assessed.
