In a word, BLEAK ! • Financial problems are critical • This is a very bad time to be trying to turn around financial problems • Dealer inventories are building • Few consumers purchase boats or drives in the winter months • Higher fuel costs drive consumers from boating • President Clinton, like all departing presidents, tried to milk the economy for all it was worth to make the party in power look as good as possible. Whoever took over would find it difficult to maintain status quo. • The stock market is “jittery” (especially right now) • Christmas retail sales are down • Consumer confidence (the primary leading indicator for boat sales) is continuing to slide. • The overall economy is showing signs of slowing • Brunswick is a very formidable opponent. Even more so, with the Independent Boat Builder case settled in their favor. • No major new products or events on the horizon are anticipated to drastically change OMC’s current situation.
