What is the current oil refinery potential of Iran and do you plan to increase it?
At present Iran refines in average of 1.6 million barrels of oil a day. Our further development program envisages constructing seven oil refinery plants. Iranian oil refinery potential can increase to 3.3 million barrels a day if the construction of these plants ends by 2014. One of these plants is built in northern region of Iran. The second plant will be built in the northwest of Iran near Tabriz. There will appear an opportunity to export to Turkey and other countries. An oil refinery plant operates in Kermanshah with the production capacity of 23,000 barrels of oil a day. The term of exploitation of the plant has expired and a new plant is built in this region. Another oil refinery plant is located in Khuzestan province. This plant will refine heavy crude. The economic potential of the plant is high, as no plant else in Iran can refine such heavy brands of oil.
