What is the current fiscal situation in Half Moon Bay?
Half Moon Bay faces a severe budget deficit. Over the past two years, the City has made over $2.3 million in cuts from the City budget in order to operate as efficiently as possible. This is a 20% reduction in our budget. Unfortunately, due to Sacramento money grabs and the recession, the City still faces a $500,000 annual deficit, even with over $300,000 in employee pay cuts and concessions, which expire in June 2011, creating at least an $800,000 annual deficit. Q: What are some of the needs in our community? A: The City of Half Moon Bay has already substantially reduced the number of employees and services provided in the community. Without a guaranteed source of local funding that cannot be taken by Sacramento, the City will have to make more drastic cuts to public safety services, potentially dismantling the Half Moon Bay police department and instead contracting for reduced police services.
