What is the currency in Spain and what types of payment/credit cards are accepted?
The currency in Spain is the euro, as in other EU countries. Foreign currency can be exchanged at all bank branches and currency exchange shops in airports and in major cities. Travellers cheques are also accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops. You will be asked to show your passport or national identity card upon exchanging cash or Travellers cheques. ATMs are plentiful in medium-sized and large cities in Spain, but are not always available in small villages. Internationally recognized credit cards are commonly accepted in shops, restaurants and hotels. There are usually signs indicating this payment option at the entrance to the establishment. When you use a credit card, you will be asked to show your passport or national identity card. Visitors from outside the euro zone generally get a better exchange rate by making purchases with a credit or debit card.
