What is the Criteria for Bariatric Surgery?
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) Criteria 1. BMI of 40 or greater OR 2. BMI of 35-40 with significant co-morbidities and documented dietary attempts ineffective. Baptist Bariatric Center Criteria for Surgery 1. Meets NIH criteria 2. No endocrine (ie. Thyroid) cause of obesity. 3. No uncontrolled psychological, drug, or alcohol problems. 4. Failed medically supervised weight loss attempts. 5. Able to demonstrate clear understanding of surgical options, possible short term and long term risks and complications. 6.
