What is the cost of radioactive iodine therapy?
At the Michigan State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, our method of administration of the radioactive iodine is subcutaneously (under the skin), between the shoulder blades, similar to vaccinations your pet may have received. For the safety of your pet and our personnel, this may require a small amount of sedation, so that the radioactive substance is fully administered to your pet, and not the surrounding environment. The radioactivity does not significantly affect the local tissues where it is administered.
