The cost of living is very much cheaper than the UK. Many retired couples are moving to Turkey so they can live comfortably on their pensions. Many are investing money in property and banks to enjoy a better standard of living than they could dream of in the UK. It is common place for older British ex-pats to live off the interest on their savings, leaving their initial capital in the bank, untouched, accruing interest.
