If you have established at least 20 years of creditable service, either by having worked 20 years or by purchasing additional creditable service time under the Early Retirement provisions to accumulate at least 20 years of creditable service, your health insurance coverage is provided at no cost when your pension begins. If you have less than 20 years of creditable service, the State of Illinois pays 5% of the health insurance premium for each full year of creditable service. Contact SERS for information regarding the cost of health coverage if you have less than 20 years of creditable service.
