Each member wears a full set of specially made fire fighting clothing. It’s referred to as “turnout gear”. A set of turnout gear consists of a helmet, jacket, bunker pants, boots, fire fighting gloves, general purpose gloves, eye protection and a nomex hood. The total price for this ensemble is just over $2,600.00 per firefighter. The turnout gear must be replaced every 10 years per manufacturer’s recommendations. The Dover Fire Department uses MSA breathing equipment. The system consists of an air cylinder, a harness system and a mask mounted regulator. We also use MSA face pieces (mask). The cost on one complete SCBA is around $4,500.00.
