What is the correct way to dispose of obsolete or broken equipment?

University policy 10-06-04, “Surplus Equipment Recycling and Disposal” states that ALL departmental equipment must be disposed of through Surplus Property. This is regardless of whether the item has an asset tag or not. Departments and individuals cannot sell, donate, or scrap equipment on their own. Surplus Property will pick up any electronic equipment free of charge to the department and oversee the reuse, recycling, or disposal of it in compliance with University and governmental regulations. Surplus Property can be contacted through their website: http://www.pts.pitt.edu/surplus/surplus.html.
