What is the cooling capacity of ordinary passenger aircraft?
Aircraft cool with the combination of bleed air and air conditioning packs located on the belly of the aircraft. Bleed air is tapped off from the compression section of each engine, routed through the wing root structure and towards the packs. http://www.b737.org.uk/airconditioning.htm The packs each have heat exchangers which moderate the bleed air temperature before being transferred to the mix manifold. This works by exposing the bleed air (contained in small radiator pipe types) to cold ram air taken in though each inlet door, which is then exited at the other end. The ram air inlet doors moderate to partially closed when in the air and flaps up due to the higher airspeed, and moderate to fully open on the ground or with flaps extended where the airspeed is less. It is the moderation of these inlet doors which allow the flight crew to moderate air temperature in the cabin. The heat exchanges cannot heat bleed air since it already adquatly hot, however to maintain warm air the inlet
