What is the CONTENTdm JPEG2000 extension, and do we need it?
The CONTENTdm JPEG2000 extension supports both the creation and display of JPEG2000 images. For more information about JPEG 2000, see http://www.jpeg.org/jpeg2000/. In the CONTENTdm workflow, the JPEG2000 extension enables collection builders to convert full resolution TIFF and JPEG files to JPEG2000 files during the import process. Existing JPEG2000 images can also be imported into CONTENTdm. This integration of JPEG2000 technology allows conversion, storage, and delivery of JPEG2000 media items to be handled entirely within CONTENTdm. Many image manipulation applications include support for creating JPEG2000 images, so it is possible you already have or will purchase software that includes this capability. In this case, you would create the JPEG2000 image and only use the Acquisition Station to associate metadata with the file and upload it to the central server.
