What is the Consumer Directed Program?
The Consumer Directed Program is a program for people in need of a personal care aide that puts you in control of your own home health care. You select the person or people who will perform the duties that are normally carried out by a Home Health Care Agency. The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program allows you to manage your own services. You screen, interview, hire, train and supervise your attendants. Under this program your own family members can be paid for giving you care; except for your spouse, son, daughter, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law. This program is covered by Medicaid. Genesee County Department of Social Services and Center for Disability Rights in Rochester work together to make sure the program operates according to the rules while supporting you in overseeing your own care. Contact the Genesee County Department of Social Services at 585-344-2580 for more information about the Consumer Directed Program and to find out if you are eligible.
