What is the congress of vienna?
It was an international Congress in 1814-1815 with the main goal to remake the European borders after the fall of Napoleon. This was done so that the new balance of power would guarantee peace in Europe. At that time, the four major powers of Europe were Austria, Russia, Prussia, and Great Britain, and they of course made most of the important decisions. We could say that it was a successful meeting, because peace in Europe lasted for almost 40 years after that. Many important decisions were made, and the list includes: France was deprived of all territory conquered by Napoleon. Norway and Sweden were joined under a single ruler. Switzerland was declared neutral. Russia got Finland and control over the new kingdom of Poland. Prussia was given much of Saxony. Austria was given back most of the territory it had lost. Britain got several strategic colonial territories.
