What is the confederation cup?
the FIFA Confederations Cup is dubbed the mini FIFA World Cup with only 8 teams competing in this tournament. the 8 teams featured in this tournament are the continental champions from their own confederations plus the host nation which is usually held one year before the actual FIFA World Cup takes place at the same country. the FIFA Confederations Cup is now considered a dress-rehearsal for the FIFA World Cup it precedes; it uses around half of the stadium intended for use at the following year’s FIFA World Cup and gives the host nation, who qualify for that tournament automatically, a vital taste of competitive football during two years of friendlies. the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup will be the 8th edition & it will be staged in SOUTH AFRICA from 14 June to 29 June 2009, as a prelude to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. BRAZIL is the defending champions, having won it in 2005. 8 teams comprising of their respective continental champions will play in the tournament & the allocation of teams
