What is the CONCERTO SOLOIST AUDITION?
The Concerto Soloist Audition is held during each session of the Festival – generally, during the first Monday or Tuesday! Students may audition with a movement of a standard concerto. Students must bring their concerto and piano accompaniment part with them to the Festival. One of NYSMF’s incredible piano faculty will perform your accompaniment for you, to ensure that you are sounding your best. The winner of the audition will perform with one of the Festival orchestras during a weekend concert. Any NYSMF student may audition, regardless of age, gender, height, weight, or even instrument. Past winners have included conventional instruments like violin, trumpet, and horn, as well as extraordinary performances on marimba, voice, snare drum, and tenor saxophone.
