What is the concept of Night Care centre ?
When we started working 17 years ago in Kamathipura, the greatest shock was to see children living in brothels and sleeping under the bed where their mother was compelled to entertain 10 to 12 customers per night. Some toddlers and infants used to be constantly drugged so they would not get up in the night and seek mother’s attention. This constant drugging in infancy has affected the cognition, intelligence, emotions and their ability to learn of many. When we first talked to these women they said that they felt extraordinarily embarrassed and every day felt like how Sita musthave felt once that the mother earth should break open and swallow them when the customers start undressing them and their children are watching the humiliation.
