What is the concept of ATHENIAN DEMOCRACY?

0

The Athenian Democracy was a system developed in the Greek city-state of Athens. It was one of the very first known democracies and probably one of the most important in ancient times. It was a direct democracy, meaning that everything was voted on directly by the citizens. Voting was not open to all though. Only free male citizens that had completed military training could participate, but it was more democratic than the oligarchies and monarchies of the time. Most modern democratic systems have a representative form of government. We elect people to represent us in government, in the Athenian Democracy the citizens eligible to vote were the government.
