What is the composition of the Rock of Gibraltar?
The Rock of Gibraltar is composed of gray limestone with a dark shale overlay on parts of its western slopes. The Rock of Gibraltar is a mountain located on a peninsula at the southern edge of Spain. It sits at the east end of the Strait of Gibraltar, the narrow passage between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. “The Rock” is 1,398 feet (425 meters) tall at its highest point.
