What is the complete capacity of the Rose Bowl for football games?
The seating capacity of the Rose Bowl is apparently open to debate. UCLA plays their home football games at the Rose Bowl and their 2007 Media Guide states that the capacity is 91,136. The Tournament of Roses, organizers of the Rose Bowl game says that it is 92,542. The 2006 Rose Bowl game, which was also the BCS championship game, had a crowd of 93,986. The Rose Bowl was constructed in 1921 and 1922 and was originally configured as a horseshoe. Later the open end would be filled in with additional seating to make the stadium a complete bowl. The maximum stated seating capacity was 104,594 from 1972 to 1997. Capacity was lowered following the 1998 Rose Bowl to widen the playing field for soccer and remove lower seats that were blocked by players on the sidelines.
