DVDs currently come in two formats , minus – R and plus +R. Companies initially made DVD players to be exclusive to one or the other. DVD players purchased before 2003 may experience these “compatibility issues” , most are universal to -R now. Ironically only +R comes in dual layer format…. confusing even for us geeks! some do play the DVDs better than others.
