What is the comparison between Jesus and Mithras all about?
Mithra is a deity that was at the center of a Mystery Cult that existed during (and possibly founded during) the time of Christ and, some have claimed, influenced early Christianity. Mithra was a god, much like Balder, who was associated with light and beauty. The mythologies portray him as being an early god (though he appears relatively late in the written records) who is a psychopomp, leading souls to paradise. Again, like Balder or Osiris, certain myths hold that he was killed and raised from the dead. To note, individuals in the Cult of Mithras would undergo a Taurobolium where they would be bathed in the blood of a bull, symbolizing power and rebirth, and they may have eaten grain and drank the bull’s blood. The comparisons between Jesus and Mithra is basically in that. Both are deities associated with light, both are associated with paradise, and both were killed/resurrected. Worshipers of both have a similar appearing communion. The problem with the comparisons come from the so
