What is the companion entitled to?
The companion pass allows the pass holder and one accompanying passenger to travel for free of charge (time restrictions apply outside of Staffordshire). The accompanying passenger does not have their own pass. The person who needs a companion will receive a pass with a symbol on it. This is so if their companion/career changes on a daily basis they can still travel for free. It also helps prevent people using passes when they should not be using them. Companion passes can be offered to the following people: • blind or partially sighted people • persons in a wheelchair • people in receipt of the higher rate care component of DLA • people in receipt of the higher rate careers allowance for ‘help with getting around’ (help with personally hygiene and cooking meals do not qualify) As with all passes issued, if someone requests a companion pass we will need to see the relevant proof. What if someone moves out of the area or passes away? You need to contact the Concessionary Fares Officer,
