What is the Community Strategy on Health and Safety at Work (2007-2012)?
The aim of the Strategy is to achieve an overall 25% reduction in occupational accidents and diseases in the EU by 2012. It sets out various steps to be taken at EU and national level to try to reach this goal including: improving and simplifying existing legislation; enhancing implementation of this legislation through the exchange of good practice, awareness campaigns and better information and training; the development of national health & safety strategies adjusted to specific needs in each country; and work to identify and assess potential new risks. The Strategy calls for the particular circumstances and needs of Small & Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to be addressed, as well as those in traditionally high-risk sectors such as agriculture, construction and transport.
