What is the ComEd Smart Meter program?
The Smart Meter program is one of the most comprehensive tests of smart meter technology in the nation. It is designed to determine how new technology can help customers make more informed decisions about energy usage and contribute to lower energy costs and reduced carbon emissions. As part of this program, select ComEd customers will have the benefit of energy information and billing based on digital meters – called smart meters – that will provide individual energy usage information every 30 minutes, rather than the traditional once-a-month meter reading. Communities in the Smart Meter program include Bellwood, Berwyn, Broadview, Forest Park, Hillside, Maywood, Melrose Park, Oak Park and River Forest, as well as the Humboldt Park neighborhood in Chicago. These areas were selected because they are representative of the entire ComEd service territory.
