What is the color code for resistors?
Much like a small pipe impedes the flow of water, a resistor in an electronic circuit impedes the flow of electricity. The impedance to flow of current depends on the value of resistance.Color BandsResistors are small, and if the values were printed on them, the numbers would be basically unreadable. Instead, color bands go around the resistor to indicate the value.Number ValueFour banded resistors use the first two bands for numbers, and five banded resistors use the first three bands. The numbers are: black = 0, brown = 1, red = 2, orange = 3, yellow = 4, green = 5, blue = 6, violet = 7, gray = 8 and white = 9.MultiplierThe next band is the multiplier, which is what the numbers are multiplied by: black = 1, brown = 10, red = 100, orange = 1,000, yellow = 10,000, green = 100,000, blue = 1,000,000; gold means divide by 10 and silver divide by 100.ToleranceThe last band gives the accuracy, or tolerance of the resistor, which is a plus or minus amount based on its resistance.
