What is the Collaborative Software Foundation?

0

The Collaborative Software Foundation (CSF) is a non-profit corporation (classified as 501(c)(3) in the United States) to support Collaborative Software Initiative software projects and products. Collaborative Software Initiative, Inc. (CSI), is a for profit software company. Using the collaborative approach, CSI builds and deploys enterprise software products. CSI can choose to license/distribute under an open source license such as the GPL. CSF is incorporated as a nonprofit corporation to hold the intellectual property rights of the CSI open source projects and products in order to ensure that the IP associated with the CSI open source projects and products continues to exist beyond the participation of CSI or individual contributors. Not only does CSF provide an established framework for intellectual property but also for financial contributions and relationships with other nonprofits. The goal of CSF is to sustain the foundation upon which the CSI open source projects are based.
