According to records from the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, based on temperature readings dating back to 1874, the lowest temperature ever recorded was zero degrees on Christmas Day of 1989. The coolest high temperature was 16 degrees on Dec. 30, 1917. The record high temperature was 104 degrees on June 27, 1952. Over the period for which records are available, the average high was 74, the average low was 53.5 and the mean was 63.9.
