What is the “coat color test?
The coat color test identifies individuals that carry the gene for recessive red coat color (red factor). This test identifies the actual mutations in the gene that causes expression of black or red coat color. The test identifies the genotype of an animal as Homozygous Black, Red Carrier, or carriers of the Wildtype allele (animals that carry an allele associated with the “Red-Black” condition in Holstein cattle). ^ Return to top Do we have to have a vet draw the blood, or can we draw it ourselves?
