What is the closest airport to Union Square, San Francisco in travel time?
Travel time via BART… they’re about the same. SFO might be a few minutes quicker, but 10-15 at most. From Oakland, you’d need to take the AirBART shuttle to the BART station… then BART from there. However, there are fewer stops between Oakland and Powell station since a good portion of the trip is going across the Bay (ie: 70-some mph, no stops). From SFO, it’s a straight shot on BART… no connecting. But more stops, so lags a little more. If the heavens are with you and you step out of the terminal with an AirBART shuttle arriving, taking you to the station where the train approaches the platform as you get there… it’s probably a bit faster than from SFO. But that’s unlikely, so SFO is a more certain bet. But again… it’s a difference of a few minutes – so it really depends more on the available flight times at each airport. I’d say from SFO would take 35-40 minutes. From Oakland, 30-50 minutes (depending on how fast the connections go).
