What is the climate like?
Chile has a land mass smaller than any other South American republic except Ecuador, but its long coastline allows it to host every imaginable climatic zone. In the north is one of the driest deserts in the world – some parts have never recorded even trace amounts of precipitation! Moving south you’ll encounter an agricultural valley the size of California, and then a province of mountain lakes and volcanoes – the famous Lake Disctrict. Further south are the wilds of Patagonia, a landscape of fjords, islands, glaciers. In the Magallanes and Tierra del Fuego areas, the weather year-round is highly unpredictable. Temperatures in summer, December – February, average 52°F (11°C). Dampness and wind chill can make it feel cooler so be prepared by having a number of layers and good waterproof gear with you. Spring and Autumn The temperature is usually between 20 and 30 degrees. These two seasons are ideal for enjoying everything the island has to offer: sun, sea, nature and culture. Easter is a wonderful time to visit Sicily. Sicilians often take their first dip in the sea at Easter and it is also a sacred time in which traditional religious processions can be seen. Summer Temperatures are often above 30 degrees and sometimes reach 40 degrees. Even so, life is good in the areas close to the coast. The busiest time is, of course, August, which can be a little chaotic. July and September are more suited to the traveller who likes to holiday in a less crowded period. The summer often extends into October, a month famous for its sagre (local festivals that celebrate local produce such as wine and cheese) and a month in which you can enjoy a swim in the sea, still warm from the summers heat! In general the climates in Bolivia are dictated mostly by altitude not latitude. The basic weather pattern of Bolivia is the wet and the dry season, which happens at the same time countrywide. There are basically five separate climatic regions: The Andes and Altiplano, the Yungas and Chapare, the temperate valleys, the Chaco and the tropical lowlands of the upper Amazon basin. Andes and Altiplano: In the highland region, located in the western third of the country, the weather does not change too dramatically from season to season. In general it is a cold weather region because of its geographical location and the weather patterns that affect it. It has been said that in the Andes one can experience all seasons in one day. The coastal areas and the cayes have typical Caribbean subtropical weather. The rainy season falls between June and November and rainfall varies from one region to the next. Toledo and Cayo districts are the wettest and Orange Walk is the driest. You will never need a jacket but you will want a sun hat. Belize lies at 17 degrees north latitude. Cyprus enjoys an intense Mediterranean climate, with long dry summers from mid-May to mid-October and with mild winters from December to February, which are separated by short autumn and spring seasons. Summer is the season of high temperatures with cloudless skies, but the sea breezes create a pleasant atmosphere in the coastal areas. Winters are mild with some rain, but even in January (usually the coolest month) there are generally six hours of bright sunshine during the day. During the summer months very light clothing is all that you will need. In spring and autumn daytime temperatures are generally warm enough for light summer clothing, but in the evening one might feel the need for a light jacket or pullover.
