What is the climate like?
Albury has a hot dry climate with average Summer (Dec-Feb) temperatures of around 30 ° C. In Winter (June-Aug), the average daytime temperature is 12 ° C, but at night it can be as low as 0 ° C. As Tanzania is located just south of the equator, the climate is hot. At present, most volunteers will be working in the Dar Es Salaam region near the Indian Ocean, so conditions will be humid. Rather than having four distinct seasons, Tanzania has rainy and dry seasons. The main rainy season is typically between March and May, although increasingly the weather in Africa is becoming unpredictable. Tropical downpours are typical in the afternoons. June-Oct is the long dry season, followed by the short rains in Nov-Dec, which are much lighter than during the rainy season. Jan-Feb are usually dry. In the coastal regions where you will be, however, it is normal to receive some rain even in the dry seasons. Temperatures average 30C during the day, and 19C at night. Kenya and Tanzania generally have a temperate tropical climate with 2 rainy seasons, and generally warm temperatures, free from winter, and with the majority of days in a year being sunny and warm with cool evenings. Two rainy seasons occur – March to May and October to November. Even in the rainy season, certain locations in the region experience bright sunny days, and rain clouds are as quick to disappear as they are to appear. Please see the type of clothing you should wear while in different parts of the country below. Uganda has a more equatorial type of climate and tends to be wetter during the rainy seasons.
A. Cyprus enjoys an intense Mediterranean climate, with long dry summers from mid-May to mid-October and with mild winters from December to February, which are separated by short autumn and spring seasons. Summer is the season of high temperatures with cloudless skies, but the sea breezes create a pleasant atmosphere in the coastal areas. Winters are mild with some rain, but even in January (usually the coolest month) there are generally six hours of bright sunshine during the day. During the summer months very light clothing is all that you will need. In spring and autumn daytime temperatures are generally warm enough for light summer clothing, but in the evening one might feel the need for a light jacket or pullover. In winter, you should be prepared for all kinds of weather that a European spring may bring. It is advisable to pack a light jacket and pullovers, although you may not need them during the day.
