What is the City of Surprise Election Cycle?
In June 2005, the Surprise City Council adopted Ordinance 05-26, officially changing the City’s Election dates to September/November instead of the previous March/May election cycle. The City of Surprise holds Non-Partisan elections every two years on the odd-year on the 2nd Tuesday in September (Primary Election) and, if necessary, on the 3rd Tuesday in November (General Election). The City’s Mayor is elected at-large; while voters within each one of the six City Council Electoral Districts elect a candidate who lives in their district as the Council representative.
