What is the city of Providence like?
Providence has a population of about 160,000 people. It has recently undergone a renaissance and now has a beautiful downtown area. Waterplace Park is the canal area where Waterfire Festival happens every other weekend from the spring to the fall. Bonfires are lighted along the river, music is played, and there is an arts festival. Also part of downtown is the new Providence Place Mall, the largest indoor mall in New England. It has just about every store you can think of, plus eighteen stadium-style seating cinemas and an Imax theater. There are many concerts and musical performances at the Dunkin Donuts Center, Trinity Repertory Theater, the Providence Performing Arts Center, and downtown clubs. All in all, Providence is an added bonus to being at Brown. There is so much happening on campus every weekend, but if you want other entertainment, the city is right there.
