What is the city of New Haven doing to fight the poor economy?
A. Everyday we work in the economic development area. We’re trying to influence companies to come to New Haven or toward this area, trying to find better and more jobs. We’ve put together a financial sustainability program to take a look at where our incomes are, where we project them to be in the future, and what our potential expenses are going to be in the future, too. I’ve always told people that a city is no different than a family. You have X amount of money that comes in and you have X expenses. We’re trying to find new ways to get things done without affecting the budget. Q. What can the people of New Haven do to help in these hard times? A. We’re asking people to volunteer more than ever. We’ve called for the citizens of New Haven to try and find some time to volunteer to do many things. We have volunteer police officers that supplement our full time personnel.
