Among others, an excellent source for learning to do your own calculations is Dershowitz, N. and E.M. Reingold (1997) Calendrical Calculations. Cambridge University Press. There are also several software packages which provide calendar information for a number of systems used in modern and ancient times by many cultures. We have found the following particularly valuable: Scheffler, A.O. and P.P. (1991) CalMaster2000: Dates, Holidays, and Astronomical Events (Available from Zephyr Services, Pittsburgh, PA.). While DOS based, CalMaster2000 is one of the few calendar programs that actually tries to deal somewhat with the eccentric nature of the Japanese lunar calendar as well as that of the Chinese. One can choose “true astronomical reckoning” in calculations or other methods.
