What is the Child and Adult Care Food Program?

What Are The Programs Benefits? The program offers cash reimbursement to child care providers for meals served to children in their care. The program also outlines which meals are eligible to claim. CACFP plays a vital role in improving the quality of day care for children and elderly adults by making care more affordable for many low-income families. Through CACFP, 2.9 million children and 86,000 adults receive nutritious meals and snacks each day as part of their day care. A General Overview CACFP is authorized at section 17 of the National School Lunch Act (42 U.S.C. 1766). Program regulations are issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) under 7 CFR part 226. National Program Administration The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) administers CACFP through grants to individual States.
