Temperatures falling below freezing coupled with the rain and snow that had fallen overnight could cause some tricky road conditions by midmorning, officials said. “You probably aren’t going to have a lot of time to dry up before temperatures fall below freezing … so we could have some icy concerns with that,” meteorologist Mark Ratzer said. Tuesday night’s mix of snow and rain provided an important test for city and suburban officials trying to clear up roadways for this season’s first major snowfall. Chicago’s snow command was coordinating with the Chicago Transit Authority to make sure the snow didn’t drastically slow bus and train service.
