What is the chemical bond found within the water molecule?
The type of bond found in water molecules is the covalent bond. In these bonds, the bonded atoms share the bonding electron(s). In the case of water it is the hydrogen atoms that are sharing their single electrons with the oxygen atom. These electrons spend more time around the oxygen atom causing the water molecule to be polarized (the oxygen part of the molecule has a negative charge while the hydrogen parts have positive charges.) ************ “Quirkie: This view of atoms is somewhat out of date (more time?), but it is useful nevertheless.” Admittedly, it has been about 15 years since my last chemistry class. So, if you have a more up-to-date answer, I too would be sincerely interested in it.
