If you are a business and wish to register your company name as a Trade Mark you CAN indeed do this. Think about “Nike” or “Coca-Cola” or “Apple”. They are all company names and registered trade marks. Anything that anybody wants to become a registered trade mark must however be registrable. The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) have trade mark examiners who take certain things into consideration when deciding to accept or reject a trade mark application. These considerations are laid down in The Trade Marks Act 1994. However, if it is your company name, and it is a name you use in trade then you shouldn’t have a problem registering it.
