What is the cheapest time of year for flights from New Zealand to the UK?
In general, I’ve always heard its more expensive to fly out or to come home on a weekend, Friday through Sunday, so flying the weekdays – Monday through Thursday – is cheaper. In addition, ‘red eye’ flights (which means depart or arrive between 2am and 6am) are less popular, so if an airline offers a red eye flight it will probably be cheaper than flights that leave during ‘normal’ times of the day. Also, another general rule is to buy your tickets ahead of time, because as the seats on the plane fill and ‘supply’ of seats is low, but people want these seats (that is, ‘demand’ is high) then the price will be higher. This is basic economics principles. So buying tickets ahead of time means chances are the supply is high (they have alot of seats) and demand is low (everyone isnt buying and filling the seats in large quantities). Plus, with gas prices (here in the US at least, but I’m sure the world is impacted), you never konw when the price of gas will raise again in the future and thus
