The $30 homemade air conditioner we posted over a year ago got an upgrade! You may recall that this neat contraption used a bucket of ice water and gravity to make cold water flow through a coil of pipe attached to the back of a fan, which made it blow cold air. A closed-circuit version doesn’t waste water; it uses an aquarium pump to push the water through a tube loop submerged in an ice-filled cooler. This rates as one of my personal favorite DIY projects we’ve ever posted, and while it was invented by poor college students enduring summer school in an AC-less dorm, it could work anyplace that’s not air-conditioned – like the garage, attic or tool shed on those dog days.
