What is the Chaska Citizen Police Academy?

0

This is an eight session program in which people learn about police work in Chaska by experiencing police work. Lectures are kept to a minimum and actual hands-on experiences are kept to a maximum. For example citizens; • make shoot/no-shoot decisions in simulated exercises. • make felony traffic stops. • role play in domestic disputes. • search for hidden fingerprints while processing a crime scene. • role play in a police interrogation. • visit the jail and experience a lockup. • process a drunk driver. • learn to recognize illegal drugs and undercover operations. Why is the Police Department providing an Academy? We want to increase partnerships with those in our community and create opportunities to receive feedback from participants to improve our delivery of services. Often there is little opportunity for the average citizen to have police contact without having a need or problem to solve. The academy offers an opportunity for both citizens and officers to share views and ideas.
