What is the CellAlert™ Emergency alert system?
Cell Broadcasting is a functionality of cellular wireless networks, that allows a text message (or a data program) to be broadcast to all of its devices in a selected cell (or group of cells). Any cell broadcast enabled device operating within the selected cell’s range receives the data being broadcast. If user has programmed the handset to accept the code number identifying the type of information being broadcast, (emergency alert) the message is displayed. If the code identifies a type of information that has not been ‘requested’, the message is ignored preventing cellular subscribers from being ‘spammed’. Because Cell-Broadcast (C-B) is geographically scalable, can send information to an unlimited number of cellular users at once, and does not interfere with normal cellular operations, it is ideal for mass emergency alert and advisory messaging applications.
