What is the cause of eczema or dermatitis?
The cause of eczema (atopic dermatitis) is unknown. It is considered a genetic disease. In general, it is a chronic recurring rash that seem to occur in the drier, colder months. Also, it is thought to arise because of environmental factors including skin irritants, the weather, temperature and other non-specific triggers. It arises from interplay of multiple genes with external environmental factors. Believe it or not, but even psychological stresses can provoke or aggravate it. How do you recognize eczema? Most people have inflamed red areas, sometimes flaking skin, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding.
