What is the cause for the recent coyote population growth in San Francisco?
Coyote populations nationwide are expanding, and we know the coyotes in San Francisco are from Northern California. Like most mammals, coyotes disperse to search for new territory. What were your main objectives in making this film? I wanted to create a third road for looking at these animals. There are those who think coyotes are these demonic animals that hurt the livelihoods of all farmers. I just basically wanted to look at the animal from a purely biological point of view. Where did you film coyotes in San Francisco? Through a lot of perseverance and a lot of patience, I was able to find some coyotes in Bernal Hill and in the Presidio. Can we coexist with coyotes here? We can’t afford to treat them like pets — we can’t feed them overtly or by accident. We have to admire them from a distance.
