Most pregnacies are the result of sex, I’m sure you already know that. You’re asking for a deeper reasoning. It is a commonly held misconception (pardon the pun), that teenagers learn everything the need to know about sex from school. This is simply not true, and the wider implications of sex and relationships are not properly explored. Without help and guidance from parents, who leave ‘that sort of thing’ to the education institutions, the young don’t know what they are getting into, as sex is glamourised in almost every medium they watch, as something done for ‘fun’ and not the special and spiritual union it should be. In many European countries, where sex education is comprehensive and all the issues around sex, self esteem, risks and responsiblities are openly discussed, they generally have a much lower rate of teenage pregnancy.
